OptiFine is a utility mod made by sp614x, that improves the performance and stability of Minecraft. For more powerful computers, there are many additional graphical inprovements.
The former mods, from which OptiFine was made were OptiFog (made by sp614x), Optimine (made by Scaevolus) and Lag Spike of Death.

May 20, 2020 OptiFine wiki changed it's logo.
April 30, 2020 OptiFine Reddit moderator Jack tweeted in reaction of new Minecraft Eula, which bans selling of capes. OptiFine (as you know) uses these capes as donation gift. sp614x did not feedbacked it yet, but until his decision, "OptiFine won't change the donations benefits, until sp614x will decide to remove capes.
April 26, 2020 OptiFine wiki changed logo.
April 8, 2020: It's been 9 years from OptiFine's first release (in this time as OptiFog).
April 1, 2020: Optifine was supposed to be released, but the bug was found in progress calculation. OptiFine 1.15.2 release was pushed back and will be released after April 1.
