Optimine was former mod for OptiFine created by Scaevolus. It has functions like FastRender (faster chunk rendering), UniText (completely rewritten text renderer with support of Unicode), Fewer glClears (erasing the entire screen), Better chunk drawing code, Better Tesselation (faster clients) and Error handling (something like Vanilla Mod). The last version was 1.3_01v2 although OptiFog was not published at all.
